Punjab Moves to Slash Traffic Fines Across Vehicle Categories
The Punjab government is set to cut traffic fines in a major relief move for citizens, with the proposal approved by the chief minister and headed to the Punjab Assembly.
Drafted by the Punjab Traffic Police, the plan introduces revised penalties across multiple vehicle types, pending legislative approval.
Motorcycle fines may drop to Rs1,000, while rickshaw penalties could be reduced to the same level, with higher fines capped for serious violations.
For cars and jeeps, fines are likely to be lowered, though stricter penalties will remain for major offences. Overspeeding fines, however, will stay unchanged.
Heavy and light transport vehicles are also set for significant reductions, with penalties for larger vehicles potentially cut by up to 50%.
Officials say the revised structure aims to balance enforcement with affordability, offering relief without compromising road safety.
